TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives (DPR) planned to establish a special task force to examine the relocation of the capital city from Jakarta to East Kalimantan Province.
The DPR deputy speaker Fadli Zon explained the team formation is necessary considering the regulation on the capital relocation requires cross-commission discussions in the House.
“I think we need a special task force, not just a work team because it involves cross-commissions,” said Fadli in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, August 28.
On Tuesday, August 27, the House speaker Bambang Soesatyo read out President Jokowi’s letter related to the planned capital move to Penajam Paser Utara regency and Kutai Kartanegara regency, East Kalimantan. According to Fadli, the letter will be discussed in the leaders’ meeting to be submitted to the House’s consultative body (Bamus).
The plan to form a special team had been proposed by the head of DPR Commission overseeing administrative affairs Zainudin Amali. He said that several regulations must be drafted by inter-commissions, starting from the government to financial issues.
However, Fadli underlined that the capital relocation could be aborted should DPR factions rejected the agenda. Moreover, when there are more urgent matters in the years ahead.
“[The capital city] possibly remains in Jakarta, not to mention if there are other issues next year, such as a massive outage or others. People can also forget about it. We’ll see what will be discussed today,” said Fadli Zon.
